The CanSkate program (Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-5:45 pm) is geared to beginners of all ages…children and newcomers to Canada and athletes with a disability (AWAD). Whether you are looking to improve basic skating skills for figure skating, hockey, ringette or speed skating, or wish to skate for recreation, fitness or fun, CanSkate will get you there.
Conducted in a fun, friendly environment, the CanSkate program showcases a comprehensive series of balance, control and agility skills, using a nationally-tested and proven curriculum that supports skater success in developing stronger basic skills on the ice.
The Test Group program (Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 -5:00 pm) is a continuation from Canskate for those we want to start specializing in Figure Skating. Figure Skates must be warn and must have stage 3 in Canskate, or directed by the Head Coach to move up. In test group we focus on the basic elements of figure skating through stroking exercises and develop stronger edges as we start learning spin and jump techniques.
The STARSkate program & Competitive Program offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skills, free skate and artistic skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Assessments through a nationally standardized assessment system. Skaters also have options to compete at qualifying competitions, and recreational competitions.
The CanPowerSkate program is a high-energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette players. This program focuses on balance, control and agility skills including components of power and speed. Skating skills, techniques and performance drills are taught in a progressive format by Skate Canada coaches certified through the NCCP to enhance the skating ability required in game situations.
Some of the top players in the NHL have trusted Skate Canada’s best-in-class programs to help them reach hockey’s biggest stage including Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, Mark Scheifele and Jeff Skinner.
Skaters may be any age and must have previous skating experience that equates to Stage 4 in CanSkate or higher. Adaptive skaters and sledge hockey skaters who have an identified skating level are welcome. All CanPowerSkate participants must have hockey skates, gloves, a stick, and helmet. Full equipment is mandatory. (Only offered during our Spring Skate Sessions).
The AdultSkate Group program (Sundays from 6:30 - 7:15 pm - Winter Season) (Friday's from 6:30-7:15 pm Spring Session) is geared for 19+ years. Offering recreational, test and competitive skate. Helmets are mandatory for those on Stage 1-4. Coaches assessments are required.
